Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has said that Indonesia must make the most of its participation in Expo 2025 Osaka in Japan, according to National Development Planning Minister Rachmat Pambudy.

"This expo has been planned from early (on), from 3 years ago," Pambudy informed at the kick-off meeting of Indonesia's participation in the expo, held in Jakarta on Thursday.

He said that the exhibition is crucial because it marks the first time Indonesia is participating in a major expo after the COVID-19 pandemic and amid the current global challenges, ranging from climate change to food issues.

"The budget for this expo, as far as I remember, is almost the same as the budget of the Ministry of National Development Planning for 1 year," he added.

On that occasion, he said that Deputy Minister of National Development Planning, Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard, will chair the steering committee for the exhibition because he gained experience in international cooperation relations during his stint as ambassador.

"We have invited several ministries to participate. However, due to budget issues, it is not easy," he added.

The Indonesian pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, which spans an area of 1,750 square meters, will showcase the diverse culture of Indonesia and the country's sustainable development goal (SDG) achievements, with the theme "Designing Future Society for Our Lives."

The development of the vessel-shaped pavilion is 75 percent complete and is targeted to be finished by March 2025.

A total of 17 ministries and agencies, 8 local governments, and 23 private companies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) will participate in the event.

The expo is expected to serve as a strategic event to attract green investment and bolster Indonesia's image as a sustainable country.
