From a historical perspective, both countries have resisted imperialism in the past and now stand united in their support for Palestinian independence.
"Indonesia and Turkey consistently oppose imperialism. Both countries are fighting for Palestinian independence and advocating for humanitarian solutions in Gaza. Turkey has also consistently condemned violence committed by Israel in the Middle East," Vermonte noted in a statement on Friday.
The spokesperson noted that the bond between the two countries is currently stronger due to ongoing political dialogues facilitated by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Vermonte highlighted that the partnership with Turkey exemplifies Indonesia's free and active policy in foreign relations.
This policy was highlighted during a bilateral meeting between Prabowo and Erdogan at the Bogor Presidential Palace on February 12, during which the two leaders addressed the matter of Palestinian independence.
During the meeting, Prabowo articulated Indonesia's position on the two-state solution, affirming that Palestinians deserve independence.
Erdogan concurred with Prabowo's political stance and expressed readiness to collaborate with Indonesia in rebuilding Palestine following the recent conflict with Israel.
"The two countries shared the common goal to help resolve conflicts in the Middle East, especially seeking peace for a two-state solution," Vermonte noted.
The closeness of the two countries is also evident in various international forums. For instance, in the Developing Eight (D-8) forum, Indonesia and Turkey, alongside six other developing Muslim countries, are fostering economic cooperation to diversify trade relations, increase participation in global decision-making, and improve the living standards of the people in member countries.
On domestic fronts, Vermonte indicated that both countries have similar views on supporting people's welfare, including implementing a free meal program.
A similar program has been operational in Turkey since 2023. Meanwhile, Indonesia has recently taken similar steps with the free nutritious meal program (MBG).
"The Turkish government's program marks a significant step toward a free lunch program in their country. Meanwhile, Indonesia has started to implement the MBG program for students, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers," Vermonte stated.
