This collaboration was established during a meeting between Chief of National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and Minister of Immigration and Correction, Agus Andrianto, at the Police Headquarters here on Friday.
"The raids we carry out require support from the police force due to our limited personnel," Minister Andrianto noted.
He noted that data indicates approximately 313 inmates have been moved to the Nusakambangan Maximum Security Unit over suspicions of their involvement in drug trafficking from behind bars.
To that end, he believes that the collaboration with Polri is vital to strengthen the government's efforts to tackle drug trafficking, especially in prisons.
Furthermore, Andrianto, who earlier served as Deputy Chief of Police in 2023-2024, stated that he had issued a directive to all prisons to cooperate with law enforcement officials investigating criminal offenses, especially those related to drugs.
In addition, he has instructed his team to actively engage with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) rather than being apathetic.
Meanwhile, Police Chief Prabowo welcomed the collaboration, affirming that the National Police is prepared to help eliminate drugs within prisons. He acknowledged the serious drug crisis currently facing Indonesia.
"Related to prison raids, we are ready to provide support 24/7. We will also conduct a review in three months to assess the transfer of inmates to Nusakambangan, and hopefully, this will lead to a decline in the spread of drugs," he remarked.
