"We will continue the push for downstreaming. This year, we will begin this drive with at least 15 megaprojects worth billions of dollars. Note that we will not rely on foreign investments," he remarked in Bogor District, West Java, on Saturday.
Speaking at the commemoration of the 17th anniversary of the Gerindra Party, which he leads, Prabowo emphasized that it is vital for Indonesia to continue downstreaming its profound natural resources, ensuring they optimally benefit the people.
The president then underscored that his Red and White Cabinet would remain open to investors who wish to participate in implementing the downstreaming policy. However, he clarified that the government would not plead for their investment capital.
"We are open to foreign investors eager to place capital in Indonesia. However, we will not be pleading. We will rise with our own strength," he affirmed.
Furthermore, the head of state stressed that downstreaming natural resources to boost their value essentially aligns with his government's key missions, collectively known as the Asta Cita.
He added that his downstreaming measures would cover the maritime sector to create more job opportunities, an objective expected to lead to a just and equitable economy for all people.
Additionally, Prabowo stated that the downstreaming policy is in line with the vision of the first president, Soekarno, popularly known as Bung Karno, who advocated for an independent and self-sufficient Indonesia.
"We aim to make President Soekarno's dream come true, ensuring that this nation can stand on its own," he affirmed.
In addition to downstreaming, the president reiterated his commitment to effectively implementing other priorities this year, including the Free Nutritious Meals program, self-sufficiency in food, and energy security.
