He informed that the government is extending the length of functional toll roads by around 58 kilometers, with several toll roads prioritized for completion in strategic areas such as Palembang and Yogyakarta.
"We are pushing this functional toll roads work to reduce congestion during homecoming," he said after a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday.
Under the toll road project in Yogyakarta, the ministry will add six kilometers to the section stretching from the Prambanan Temple tourist area to the airport.
The minister is targeting to begin operating the toll road on D-10 of Eid to ensure better services for the public before the peak of the homecoming flow.
Regarding toll rates, Hanggodo informed that the exact figure has not been set and it is still under discussion.
To accelerate the finalization of the rates, the Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) held a meeting with all related business entities to discuss the matter.
"Hopefully, it will not be long for us to announce the rates together with the Coordinating Minister, along with the announcement of airline fares as well," he added.
Hanggodo said that President Prabowo has not provided a definite figure on the toll rates, so further meetings and discussions are still ongoing.
He expressed great hope that the functional toll roads will be completed to ease congestion, which is usually a primary problem during the homecoming season.
Besides toll road fares, the government is also pushing for affordable land, sea, and air transportation fares for the Eid homecoming season.
The government, together with the transportation, SOEs, and finance ministries, is still discussing the scheme to keep ticket prices in check.
