Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto called on the 961 newly inaugurated regional leaders, elected during last year's simultaneous local elections, to get ready to participate in a retreat planned at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java.

The leaders comprised governors, mayors, district heads, as well as their deputies.

Speaking after a simultaneous induction ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, Prabowo expressed hope that the new local leaders would be able to partake in all activities featured in the retreat, scheduled for February 21-28.

"I think my speech here will not be a lengthy one since we will soon meet in a retreat to be organized by the home affairs minister in Magelang. I will meet you there, and hopefully, you are strong enough to undertake the agenda," he told the leaders.

The president then continued by stressing that those feeling hesitant to accept his invitation to the Military Academy "are welcome to back down."

Before concluding his speech at the mass inauguration, the head of state reminded the nearly one thousand regional heads that they had been chosen to serve the people.

Bearing that in mind, he urged the local leaders to exert their utmost to work for the interests and benefits of their constituents.

"Let us all serve the people by doing our best for them," he stated.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Bima Arya Sugiarto noted that his team had invited at least 40 speakers to brief the regional heads during the forthcoming retreat.

He underscored that the initial plan to feature all 48 ministers of the Red and White Cabinet in the retreat has been shelved due to the tight schedule and the need to involve speakers from the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) to discuss some essential matters.
