Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Social Affairs has dispatched emergency aid items worth Rp568 million (US$34.7 thousand) to residents grappling with floods in Bandar Lampung City, Lampung Province, and its surroundings.

"Yesterday, we began to mobilize assistance items from our 'social barn' in Palembang (South Sumatra) to Bandar Lampung for distribution," Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf remarked in Jakarta on Sunday.

He noted that the assistance is dedicated to residents in flood-hit areas across Bandar Lampung City, South Lampung District, and Pesawaran District.

The aid items consist of 2,000 packages of ready-to-eat meals, 1,000 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes, two multi-purpose tents, 10 family tents, 250 portable tents, 200 packages of children's clothing, 200 packages of family kits, 300 blankets, and 300 bedsheets.

Yusuf also informed that his ministry had prepared nearly Rp1.5 billion (US$91.8 thousand) worth of additional items in anticipation of future disasters in Lampung Province.

The anticipatory emergency items include 5,000 ready-to-eat meals, 1,000 packages of ready-to-eat side dishes, three multi-purpose tents, 25 family tents, 400 portable tents, 500 packages of family kits, 500 blankets, and 500 bedsheets.

All the logistics have arrived in Lampung Province.

The minister underlined that, in addition to the items, his office would provide compensation funds to the families of deceased victims and help the injured with medical treatments.

He emphasized that all forms of assistance serve as a testament to the government's care for disaster-hit citizens.

"The government is determined to make sure that all disaster victims receive immediate and on-point assistance. We would also like to appeal to residents to remain calm and follow the instructions conveyed by the authorities," he said.

Floods lashing Lampung Province have inundated at least 2,181 houses across three regions.

A joint search and rescue team has begun to locate and evacuate people hit by the hydrometeorological disaster.

Following high-intensity rain since early Sunday, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) has issued a danger warning for residents of Bandar Lampung City.
