Magelang, Central Java (ANTARA) - Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform (PAN-RB) Rini Widyantini has stressed that bureaucratic reform is essential for supporting social welfare.

During her visit here on Monday, the minister said that bureaucracy is a key driver of development.

She then urged regional leaders to focus on initiatives to implement bureaucratic reform.

According to Widyantini, bureaucratic reform is not just about administration, but also an overall measure of government reform, which includes developing institutional structures, performance management, business processes, and public services based on digital transformation.

"We are taking a holistic approach to ensure that the bureaucracy can serve the community more effectively," she said while speaking at a retreat of regional leaders at the Military Academy in Magelang, Central Java.

She added that compared to the central government, regional governments play a vital role in implementing bureaucratic reform, especially considering the larger number of public service units in the regions.

This means that regional governments are the closest and largest providers of public services to the community, she pointed out.

"Therefore, the quality of public services reflects how the local government is serving its public," she explained.

According to Widyantini, public expectations of government services are rising. People want services to be fast and easy to access.

Local governments that deliver excellent services enjoy greater public trust and support.

"Regional leaders are certainly the highest 'commander' in their regions for leading bureaucratic reform," she said.

She further stressed that achieving bureaucratic reform requires not only suitable policies but also commitment and clear directives from leaders, including local officials.

She said that the success of regional leaders in driving bureaucratic reform would foster political stability and lead to better public services. Furthermore, the initiative could also promote more inclusive economic growth.
