Deputy Chief of the Indonesian Ombudsman Bobby Hamzar Rafinus noted that one of the goals of the cooperation is to encourage good governance practices in Indonesia, given New Zealand's strong governance reputation.
"The Indonesian Ombudsman is still new compared to the New Zealand Ombudsman. It is essential for us to learn how the Ombudsman is operated in New Zealand," Rafinus stated at the meeting, according to a statement confirmed on Wednesday.
He explained that the Indonesian Ombudsman has two main tasks: resolving reports and preventing maladministration.
Several activities conducted to prevent maladministration are systemic studies, rapid studies, and knowledge management.
In addition to addressing incoming public reports, the Indonesian Ombudsman conducts investigations and implements rapid responses to fulfill its report resolution duties.
He expressed hope that through this cooperation, the New Zealand Ombudsman would share various experiences in resolving reports and preventing maladministration.
"We hope there will be an improvement in the capacity of the Indonesian Ombudsman employees in carrying out their duties," he remarked.
On the same occasion, Chief of the New Zealand Ombudsman Peter Boshier said he would appoint a representative to discuss technical preparations for the follow-up to the cooperation.
He affirmed that the New Zealand Ombudsman can share experiences on management, funding sources, and organizational structure, among other aspects.
He explained that his side considers various previous cases in resolving reports.
The New Zealand Ombudsman has an archive of case records that explains how to resolve reports. The case records are posted on its official website for public viewing.
Furthermore, Boshier affirmed that his side would help the Indonesian Ombudsman in capacity building as support for follow-up cooperation over the next three years.
