"Mr President truly cares and is genuinely concerned about the need for the government to find a solution to this matter, particularly the problems (former) workers at Sritex will face," State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi remarked after the meeting on Monday.
During a press conference at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, he emphasized that President Prabowo has repeatedly urged his aides in the Cabinet to immediately address issues related to Sritex, which was declared bankrupt in October last year.
The government has been working to re-employ the laid-off laborers and closely overseeing the fulfillment of their post-layoff rights, including severance compensation.
On the same occasion, Manpower Minister Yassierli made similar statements, assuring the public that his office would work toward fulfilling the rights of former Sritex workers.
In this regard, the minister specifically mentioned Old Age Savings (JHT) and benefits offered under the Job Loss Guarantee (JKP) program.
State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir also attended the meeting and the press conference.
Earlier, on February 27, Head of the Industry and Manpower Office of Sukoharjo District, Sumarno, revealed that the decision to implement mass layoffs was made on February 26, leading to the company's operations ceasing on March 1.
Sumarno confirmed that former workers of Sritex are entitled to severance pay, as well as the benefits of JHT and JKP, noting that their rights to this post-layoff benefits package "are guaranteed."
The following day, President Director of Sritex Iwan Kurniawan extended his appreciation to the former laborers for their loyalty and dedication to developing the company, which was founded in 1966 in Sukoharjo, Central Java.
He highlighted that the company's downfall had led to the termination of 12 thousand laborers, including those working at its three subsidiaries.
