Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Director of Pertamina Simon Aloysius Mantiri has said that state oil and gas firm is committed to increasing transparency in the management of crude oil and fuel, including imports and exports.

“With this incident (alleged corruption in crude oil and refinery product management at the company in 2018–2023), we will improve transparency and good governance,” he said at a press conference at Pertamina’s headquarters here on Monday.

In the wake of the alleged corruption case, he informed that Pertamina will collaborate with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to evaluate the management of crude oil.

The findings of the Attorney General’s Office in the case will be used as tools for improvement.

“So that the (crude oil) management does not negatively impact the company’s or the state’s finances,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the deputy president director of Pertamina, Wiko Migantoro, said that all sectors, including the upstream and downstream oil and gas sectors, are working to boost national energy self-sufficiency.

“In the upstream sector, we are working to increase national oil and gas production to reduce crude oil imports,” he said.

He added that the government supports the processing of domestic crude oil at Pertamina’s refineries.

“We are upgrading the refineries. Currently, our refineries are functioning quite well. Processed oil that can produce valuable products at our refineries has also expanded,” he added.

There have been allegations of corruption in crude oil and refinery product management at Pertamina’s subsidiaries, PT Pertamina Sub-holding, and contractors (KKKS) during the period from 2018 to 2023.

The Attorney General’s Office has indicated that the suspects involved in the corruption case intentionally suppressed domestic crude oil and refinery production.

Therefore, to fulfill domestic needs, PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional imported crude oil, while PT Pertamina Patra Niaga imported refinery products. The purchase price of the imports was higher compared to the cost of crude oil produced domestically.
