Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, said here on Tuesday that investing in research and innovation is crucial for Indonesia to achieve the status of a developed and prosperous nation.

"Becoming a developed country can only happen with well-prepared, high-quality human resources and strong research and innovation to promote industrial growth in Indonesia," he added.

He made the remarks at the launch of the research and community service program for 2025.

Applications for the competitive funding program will open from March 10 to April 7, 2025. Research proposals can be submitted via the Research and Community Service Information System (BIMA) platform.

Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Stella Christie, highlighted that research has a key role in the overall development of national human resources and is a source of innovation for economic growth.

"Every rupiah we invest in research has a measurable impact on economic growth. A 10-percent increase in global research spending in the short term can boost gross domestic product (GDP) growth by 0.2 percent, and in the long term, it can reach 0.9 percent," she explained.

The program aligns with the Asta Cita vision of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, which is outlined in the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN).

Meanwhile, the ministry has also identified eight research focus areas: food, renewable energy, health, transportation, engineering, defense and security, maritime issues, and social humanities, education, arts, and culture, besides other research fields.

The government has urged lecturers to submit quality research proposals that can promote science and technology-based innovation and create tangible benefits for communities throughout the country.

The research program aims to generate innovative solutions that will strengthen national economic growth and enhance social welfare.
