Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza has informed that the Indonesian Government will ease regulations to support the growth of the furniture industry, boost its competitiveness, and expand the industry's global reach.

He said that regulatory ease is one of the government's main measures to support the furniture industry in facing global challenges.

"To support the growth of the furniture industry, the government has one task, namely to provide ease, especially in regulations," he underlined while opening the 2025 Indonesia International Furniture Expo (IFEX) in Jakarta on Thursday.

He emphasized that regulatory support is key for boosting the strength and growth of the furniture and craft industries in Indonesia.

According to Riza, even though the global economic situation is currently not favorable, Indonesia's non-oil and gas manufacturing industry sector is continuing to grow and remain strong, and even experiencing significant growth.

The contribution of the manufacturing industry sector to Indonesia's gross domestic product (GDP) in 2024 is estimated at 17.16 percent, with growth of around 4.7 percent compared to the previous year.

The number of workers in the manufacturing industry has also increased to reach around 19.96 million, reflecting the positive developments in the sector.

Indonesia's Manufacturing Value Added (MVA) in 2023 was recorded at USD255 billion, earning it the 12th place globally. Among ASEAN countries, Indonesia's MVA was the highest.

In February 2024, Indonesia's Purchasing Manager Index (PMI) stood at 53.6, marking significant growth compared to the same month in the previous year.

Meanwhile, Indonesia's Industrial Confidence Index was recorded at 53.1, reflecting a positive increase in confidence in the country's industrial sector.

"In developing the domestic furniture industry, the Ministry of Industry is fully committed to doing the work and taking strategic measures, especially providing facilities for raw materials and human resources' availability," Riza said.

General chairperson of the Indonesian Furniture and Craft Association (HIMKI), Abdul Sobur, said that the furniture and craft industries are highly strategic, unlike mining, where resources will run out at some point.

He highlighted that Indonesia's furniture export potential still has room for growth.
