Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police (Polri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo has promised severe ethical and criminal penalties on AKBP Fajar Sumaatmaja, the East Nusa Tenggara Ngada Resort Police head, implicated in pedophilia and drug abuse.

"In essence, we will take strong actions in response to this case, including pursuing sanctions for both criminal and ethical offenses," he told the media after attending an event at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in Jakarta on Thursday.

When further questioned about Polri’s stance on the criminal allegations against the non-active local police head, General Prabowo stated that his team would release additional press statements today.

“We will release statements soon, maybe today,” he told reporters.

According to a police letter ANTARA received in Jakarta on Thursday, AKBP Sumaatmaja has been dismissed from his leadership position at the Ngada Resort Police following an investigation into his alleged involvement in the sexual exploitation of multiple children and drug abuse.

AKBP Andrey Valentino, who earlier served as the head of the Nagekeo Resort Police in the same province, was appointed to fill the vacant position at the Ngada District Police.

The Indonesian public has been left stunned by reports of AKBP Sumaatmaja being implicated in sexual abuse against at least three underage victims during his service as the Ngada Resort Police head.

Moreover, he has been accused of recording videos of his outrageous actions and sending the footage to certain foreign porn sites, prompting citizens to express their anger on social media platforms.

On February 20, Polri’s Professional and Internal Security Division (Propam) moved to arrest the suspect in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Later, on March 11, the NTT Regional Police confirmed to have interrogated nine witnesses linked to the sexual abuse allegation, one of them a woman, identified as F, known for sending a child to the suspect in a hotel in June 2024.

For her role, the witness F allegedly received Rp3 million (nearly US$183) from the suspect.
