Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Ministry to address cases of violence involving women and children.

Head of Polri's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) Commissioner General Wahyu Widada expressed this commitment after signing a memorandum of understanding with the ministry on Tuesday, according to the police's statement cited here.

He said that through this cooperation, Polri aims to bolster its performance in dealing with violence cases and create a safer environment for women and children in the country.

Widada then highlighted that Bareskrim had established the Directorate of Crimes Against Women and Children and Human Trafficking Crimes as a manifestation of the police's determination to ensure greater safety for women and children.

"The formation of this directorate also reflects the strong commitment of Polri and Polri Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to paying special attention to the protection of women and children, who are considered part of vulnerable groups," he affirmed.

Meanwhile, PPPA Minister Arifatul Choiri Fauzi expressed hope that the cooperation with Polri would result in a declined count of violence cases against women and children.

In this regard, Fauzi highlighted that a survey conducted by her ministry last year indicated that one out of four Indonesian women has experienced physical, psychological, and sexual violence.

She pointed to a similar unfavorable trend among Indonesian children and teenagers.

"One out of two children has suffered sexual violence," she stated.

Bearing that in mind, Fauzi is upbeat that by teaming up with the Polri, the PPPA Ministry would be able to take more effective measures against violence cases involving women and children and bring the offenders to justice.
