"I personally wish for Jakarta to truly become a city that is friendly to animals. There are many cats that are treated badly," he said at the Jakarta City Hall here on Thursday.
He informed that the Jakarta provincial government will push for the establishment of health centers for animals.
One such animal health center located in Ragunan will be rejuvenated or upgraded. He expressed the hope that by the end of his term, each city and district in Jakarta will have a special health center for animals.
"Right now, there is only one (animal health center) in Ragunan. This is important because the development of animals in Jakarta is extraordinary. Cat lovers are remarkable, and even now, Bobby Kartanegara (the President's cat) has made it to the Palace," Wibowo said.
Besides the special health center for animals, he proposed creating a cat island.
He indicated that a cat island is planned in the Seribu Islands.
"The idea of a cat island is not actually new. It has already been done in Japan, and it has become an extraordinary tourist destination," he said.
According to him, the community of cat lovers in Indonesia is quite large. Therefore, he believes Indonesia has the potential to develop a cat island as a tourist destination.
"If we can make this happen, it could also generate revenue for the Seribu Islands, attracting people to come and enjoy cat tourism," he said.
