Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria underscored that innovation leaps in artificial intelligence (AI) technology can catalyze economic growth in Indonesia.

Patria noted in a press release on Friday that AI is not only regarded as a technology product but also as a transformation catalyst to realize an eight-percent economic growth target set by President Prabowo Subianto.

"AI must be an economic driver capable of integrating Indonesia into the global supply chain while bolstering the foundation of the current local industry," he stated in a dialogue session on AI as Innovation and Competition Driver of Indonesia's Digital Economy in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He noted that optimizing AI technology can boost productivity, efficiency, and competitiveness in various strategic sectors, such as e-commerce, health, finance, education, the creative economy, and environmental sustainability.

The deputy minister affirmed that currently, the government has facilitated the development of digital infrastructure and talents to strengthen the AI development ecosystem in Indonesia.

The government had earlier issued the Circular Letter of the Minister of Communication and Informatics Number 9 of 2023 concerning the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence to regulate AI utilization in Indonesia.

"AI continues to develop dynamically and competitively at the global level, highlighting the importance of creating policies about AI to be carried out thoroughly," he affirmed.

He further underlined the importance of the role of stakeholders and the digital ecosystem in creating AI policies in Indonesia.

According to Patria, the results of dialogue with stakeholders are the basis for AI policy recommendations that are concrete and progressive and support national interests.
