Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Development Planning Minister Rachmat Pambudy emphasized that transmigration is a crucial strategy for achieving an inclusive and integrated 8 percent economic growth.

This goal can be realized by ensuring a balanced population distribution and optimizing regional economic potential through the diversification of both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors.

"Transmigration is expected to serve as a catalyst for industrialization, driving sustainable and inclusive growth so that its benefits reach all levels of society," he noted, as quoted from an official statement here on Monday.

According to Law Number 15 of 1997 on Transmigration, the program is designed to promote equitable development, strengthen national unity, and improve the welfare of transmigrants and surrounding communities.

Pambudy stated that while past transmigration initiatives had successfully reduced population density and fostered more balanced settlement distribution, several pressing challenges remain.

"The economic scale of transmigration areas is still limited. Economic activities are predominantly based on agriculture, and regional development has yet to be fully integrated with local growth centers," he observed.

Pambudy also highlighted that transmigration financing still relies heavily on state and regional budgets. Additionally, despite strong public interest in transmigration, issues persist in organizing population distribution effectively.

To address these issues, the government is preparing a transmigration transformation focused on boosting the added value of mainstay products, diversifying economic activities, and integrating transmigration areas with special economic zones and industrial areas.

Enhancing inter-ministerial collaboration, such as through the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program, by utilizing agricultural land for food provision and irrigation development is viewed as crucial for achieving shared prosperity.

"The synergy between the central government, regional governments, and the private sector is key to accelerating the transmigration program for inclusive and integrated economic growth," he concluded.
