Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Air Force, through the National Air Operations Command, is conducting a 10-day weather modification operation to reduce the intensity of rainfall and help the government prevent flooding.

The operation aims to reduce flooding in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek), head of the Indonesian Air Force's Information Service (Kadispenau), Marsma TNI Ardi Syahri, said in an official TNI AU press release received in Jakarta on Monday.

The weather modification operation has been underway since March 10, 2025, and will end on March 20, 2025, he informed.

He said that for the operation, the Indonesian Air Force has deployed two Cassa 212 aircraft from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta and Husein Sastranegara Air Force Base in Bandung.

The aircraft have been deployed to carry salt compounds for dispersal in the sky, which is believed to trigger a reaction that helps reduce rainfall.

He added that TNI AU is working with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to determine the optimal locations for salt distribution.

"Based on data as of Thursday (March 13, 2025), around 35.5 tons of salt (NaCl) have been dispersed across 18 flight sorties," Syahri disclosed.

He assured that the weather control mission will continue to be carried out to the fullest extent until the specified time.
