According to Spokesperson and Head of the Jakarta BPBD's Logistics and Equipment Subgroup Michael Sitanggang, 15 flight sorties, with a duration of 31 hours and 30 minutes, were involved in the cloud seeding operation.
For Sunday's clouding seeding operation, the authorized agency dispersed 2.4 tons of hygroscopic seeding material (absorbs water molecules) by involving flight sorties with a duration of five hours and 40 minutes.
The targeted areas of the first cloud seeding operation included the districts of Pandeglang and Serang in Banten Province while the second operation was carried out above the areas of Southwest Pandeglang and Lebak. All.were in Banten Province, and the third operation was carried out above Sunda Strait Waters, he said.
"We continue to coordinate with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) to monitor weather developments to ensure that Jakarta is free from hydrometeorological disasters during this weather modification operation," he added.
The weather modification operation was carried out as a follow-up to the BMKG's report stating that the provinces of Jakarta, West Java, and Banten experienced rainfall with varying intensity, ranging from light, moderate, to heavy.
Acting Director of Weather Modification Management at BMKG Budi Harsoyo explained that based on a three-hour precipitation (rainfall) prediction, rain with light to moderate intensity was predicted to shower the region.
"The three-hour weather forecast shows light to moderate intensity, so we are targeting cloud growth in the West Java region for today's operation. The potential for rain cloud formation in the West Java region may occur on March 17-18, 2025," he said.
