Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Population and Family Development, Wihaji, has said that the government respects Indonesian nationals who choose to pursue careers abroad.

He made the statement while receiving Singapore's Minister of Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli here on Tuesday.

"The government certainly respects that. The most important thing is that our government under President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran will always respond to the needs of the Indonesian people in terms of work," he said in a ministry statement issued here on Wednesday.

He emphasized that the state will be present for the people.

He added that the Indonesian government wants to collaborate with Singapore to optimize the demographic bonus.

"Issues related to family development remain a commitment, even though Singapore is a developed country, its commitment to families is very high. We believe this is part of the future and is well thought out, so we want to cooperate in population and family development," he explained.

He elaborated that the cooperation will involve studies on family development and population issues such as urbanization, and collaboration with other countries, for example, the Philippines.

This cooperation exploration, he said, will be followed up with a bilateral memorandum of understanding.

Meanwhile, Minister Zulkifli said that his country is focusing on strengthening families to alleviate poverty.

He affirmed that Singapore will continue to work with ASEAN to strengthen efforts to build families that are stable, independent, and thriving.

He said that all social development subsidies in Singapore focus on three areas, namely housing, education, and health.
