Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-run electricity company PLN has prepared 1 thousand public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLUs) at 615 locations on the 2025 Eid al-Fitr homecoming routes along the Trans-Java and Trans-Sumatra toll roads.

According to the distribution director at PLN, Adi Priyanto, the number of customers using electric cars during the Eid homecoming season is expected to increase by up to 500 percent.

Therefore, PLN is committed to providing SPKLU infrastructure along homecoming routes by increasing it by up to 7.5 times compared to the previous year, especially in high-occupancy areas.

"This is a special addition of SPKLU along the Java-Sumatra (route); there are 1 thousand (units) at 615 locations. In addition, if there is an emergency condition, we will also add mobile SPKLU units," Priyanto said at a press conference on energy supply preparedness for Eid in Jakarta on Thursday.

He informed that PLN will also install SPKLU units on non-toll roads to serve travelers using electric vehicles. The distance between the units will be approximately 23 kilometers, he added.

PLN and its partners have installed 3,558 SPKLU units at 2,412 locations.

Furthermore, Priyanto encouraged electric vehicle users to access the Road Trip Planner feature on the PLN Mobile app to find information about SPKLU locations.

"We also detect approximately where the most frequent trips are, which we detect from the available data, and the busiest routes are in Central Java and East Java. Some travelers are even heading to Bali," he said.

He added that PLN has thoroughly prepared all electricity infrastructure, with secure and sufficient power generation and primary energy supplies.

In addition, it has formed a special team that will remain on standby during the Eid homecoming period from March 17 to April 11, 2025, at strategic locations such as Eid prayer venues, stations, terminals, community activity centers, and event venues with layered electricity supply.

Overall, PLN will deploy 69 thousand personnel, 3,830 standby posts, 1,839 generators, 636 Uninterruptible Power Supply units, 1,276 mobile substations, 348 crane trucks, 4,755 operational cars, and 4,250 operational motorcycles during the period.
