Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, has said that the Military (TNI) Bill has met all legal principles required to become a law.

"The House Plenary Session has just ratified the TNI Law, which has fulfilled all necessary legal principles," she informed at the Parliament Complex here on Thursday.

She made the statement after leading the Plenary Session, which approved the passage of the TNI Bill into law.

Maharani said that the TNI Bill has gone through the necessary legislature mechanisms.

"From receiving letters, accommodating public participation, to hearing concerns from related parties, and conducting discussions openly," she added.

She noted that the discussions around the TNI Bill in the parliament accommodated the civil society's aspirations.

"The DPR, together with the government, have received inputs and aspirations from all elements of society that are deemed important and necessary, including inputs from students and student representatives," she said.

Regarding public concerns about the new Military Law, she emphasized that the ratified law does not ignore those concerns.

"We hope and encourage students who may not yet have received the necessary explanations to reach out, as we are ready to clarify any fears or suspicions that the revisions to the TNI Law do not align with (people's) expectations," she explained.

"We also hope that the newly ratified law will be beneficial for the nation's and the state's development," she added.

The revised Military Law adds TNI members' roles in civilian positions, expands the scope of military operations other than war (OMSP), and extends their retirement age.
