Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ombudsman will enhance its oversight of social assistance programs to ensure their accuracy and tangible benefits, according to Ombudsman member Hery Susanto.

"Moving forward, the Indonesian Ombudsman will strengthen supervision of the implementation of social assistance programs," he stated in a press release received here on Sunday.

Speaking at a charity event at Endan Andansih Mosque in Purwakarta, West Java, on Saturday, Susanto emphasized that supervision is part of the function and authority of the Indonesian Ombudsman to play an active role in ensuring transparency and effectiveness of social programs.

He highlighted that the state is obligated to protect vulnerable groups, as mandated by Article 34, Paragraph 1 of the 1945 Constitution.

"The Indonesian Ombudsman supports the implementation of social policies to ensure that eligible recipients receive their rightful assistance," he said.

However, he stressed that addressing poverty cannot rely solely on the government but requires the synergy of the community, social organizations, and businesses.

Susanto also noted that Saturday’s charity event was a meaningful opportunity to strengthen social solidarity during the holy month of Ramadan and demonstrate care for vulnerable groups, particularly the poor and orphans.

He underscored that Ramadan should not only be a time for religious observance but also for reinforcing social responsibility.

Additionally, he highlighted Islamic teachings on the importance of zakat (alms), infak (donations), and sedekah (voluntary charity) as expressions of solidarity with others.

"Personal piety is important, but social piety will make it perfect. The Indonesian Ombudsman appreciates this event as its aligns with the values of Pancasila (Indonesia's national ideology)," he concluded.
