Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Banjarnegara District Government, and Banjarnegara Waste Bank (BSB) in Central Java have developed a technology for processing plastic waste into fuel (petasol) through a fast pyrolysis (faspol) machine.

"Processing plastic waste into petasol is an innovative solution to overcome the waste problem while providing alternative energy," Head of the Sustainable Production System Research Center and Life Cycle Assessment of BRIN Nugroho Adi Sasongko noted in a statement in Jakarta, Monday.

Coordinator of the Resource Valorization Research Group in Sustainable Circular Engineering of BRIN Tri Martini Patria elaborated that processing plastic waste into fuel has interesting economic potential.

"Processing plastic waste into petasol with the principle of a circular economy not only reduces the volume of waste but also produces environmentally friendly alternative fuels," she remarked.

Another BRIN researcher, Heru Susanto, stated that petasol has been tested in the BRIN laboratory and the Oil and Gas Testing Center (Lemigas) of the Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Ministry, where petasol was declared to meet the fuel standards equivalent to B0 diesel fuel.

"The cleaner and drier the processed plastic waste, the better the yield and quality," he remarked.

Banjarnegara District Head Amalia Desiana expressed her appreciation for the assistance and research cooperation that had been carried out.

She expressed hope that this can be an alternative solution to the region's waste management problem.

"The research that has been produced for the past two years has supported the development in Banjarnegara. We still need BRIN's presence in the future so that the harmonization of research cooperation can be distributed on a wider scale," she stated.
