Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has prepared several alternative rest areas along arterial roads for Eid al-Fitr 2025 homecoming travelers, including weighbridge facilities under the Motor Vehicle Weighing Implementation Unit (UPPKB) and mosques.

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that these facilities aim to help fatigued homecoming travelers rest briefly, reducing the risk of unwanted incidents during their journey.

"The Ministry of Transportation has temporarily converted weighbridges as rest areas. Additionally, after coordinating with the Ministry of Religious Affairs, mosques have also been allowed to be used for resting," Purwagandhi remarked.

A total of 36 UPPKB facilities have been temporarily converted into rest areas for road users, effective from Monday (March 24) at 12:00 a.m. local time until Thursday (April 10) at 12:00 a.m. local time.

These UPPKB facilities are spread across the provinces of North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Jambi, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, and Bali.

Furthermore, the government, through the Ministry of Religious Affairs, has made 148 mosques in Sumatra and 214 mosques in Java available as rest areas for homecoming travelers.

These mosques are spread along arterial roads. Both the weighbridges and mosques will be equipped with adequate facilities, such as prayer facilities, clean toilets, and other amenities.

Minister Purwagandhi also called on local governments to provide additional rest areas for homecoming travelers.

"We hope for support from local governments, such as providing feeder transportation from the arrival points of free homecoming participants, considering the WFA (work from anywhere) policy, providing rest areas, and monitoring and anticipating accident-prone and congestion-prone areas," he remarked.
