BNPB Head Suharyanto noted in a statement here on Thursday that this strategy is taken because it is effective in reducing rain intensity, thereby minimizing the risks of hydrometeorological disasters in areas that are part of the main homecoming routes, especially Lampung and Banten.
According to BNPB, weather forecasts for the Eid holiday indicate relatively safe conditions in Banten.
However, Lampung is expected to receive increased rainfall at the end of March due to atmospheric dynamics, including the active Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) and local weather influences.
"From March 25 to April 1, 2025, it is relatively safe for Banten. Meanwhile, in Lampung, on March 28, which is predicted to be the peak of the homecoming flow, there is the potential for increased rainfall," he remarked.
To this end, he stated that weather modification operations will be carried out in Lampung if necessary.
This proposal was also presented during a meeting on Eid homecoming preparations led by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno at Merak Port, Banten, on Wednesday.

In addition to weather mitigation, Suharyanto highlighted the importance of preparedness for potential disasters in Banten and Lampung.
He particularly referenced past incidents such as the 2022 earthquake in Pandeglang, Banten, and increased volcanic activity from Mount Anak Krakatau in 2022 and 2023.
"Regional governments must also remain vigilant and boost preparedness during this Eid period," he stressed.
The BNPB head further spoke of having readied personnel to be on full alert to assist in case of emergencies at several points passed by homecoming travelers.
Joint posts have been established with support from personnel of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri), equipped with logistical supplies, rest areas, and disaster management equipment.
Through these measures, the BNPB aims to ensure preparedness for potential disasters to guarantee safety and smooth travel for this year's Eid homecoming exodus, in which 146.48 million people are expected to participate.
