Samarinda, E Kalimantan (ANTARA) - East Kalimantan Governor Rudy Mas'ud invited the residents to pray for those affected by the recent flooding in Berau District.

"Let us not forget our brothers and sisters affected by this disaster. Let us pray so that they are given strength and resilience, especially for the victims impacted by the floods in Berau and East Kutai," Mas'ud stated here on Monday.

He remarked that on Eid, it is essential to bear in mind the importance of solidarity and care for others, particularly for those facing difficulties due to natural disasters.

He affirmed that the moral support and prayers of all residents of East Kalimantan hold significant value for the victims' recovery.

Mas'ud also reminded the public of the importance of strengthening brotherhood, maintaining tolerance, and respecting the diversity that is East Kalimantan's wealth.

According to the governor, these noble values are the foundation for building a peaceful, prosperous, and harmonious East Kalimantan.

"Let us use this Eid al-Fitr occasion as an opportunity to strengthen unity and togetherness. By maintaining brotherhood, tolerance, and respecting differences, we can build a better East Kalimantan together," he asserted.

In addition to highlighting the importance of solidarity and tolerance, Mas'ud reiterated zakat or alms as one of Islam's pillars that plays a significant role in improving community welfare.

He explained that the potential zakat in East Kalimantan reaches Rp6 trillion, or around US$362.1 million.

The province's National Alms Agency (Baznas) data shows that by early 2025, the zakat collected amounted to Rp4.6 billion, with significant contributions from civil servants (ASN) of around Rp300 million per month.
