Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Environment's air monitoring system reported that Indonesia's air quality remained healthy on Thursday, marking the third day after Eid al-Fitr.

Based on monitoring of the Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) site managed by the ministry's Deputy for Pollution Control and Environmental Damage on Thursday afternoon, 32 stations recorded moderate air quality, while 42 others fell into the good category.

The ministry's Director of Air Quality Protection and Management, Edward Nixon Pakpahan, stated on Thursday that his team has conducted intensive collaborative work, including identifying and handling sources of pollution, including through law enforcement.

"The good and moderate ISPU air quality is also attributed to reduced public activities due to the Eid holiday period, including both urban transportation and industrial activity," he explained.

He further noted that this improvement was achieved through coordination with local governments to prevent and manage air pollution, including fostering operational activities of industrial areas in each region.

Pakpahan then commended the joint operation with other ministries and institutions to handle pollution sources, such as conducting motor vehicle emission tests, including those recently carried out in collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, the Ministry of Transportation, and the National Police.

Additionally, he explained that environmental law enforcement measures have been carried out by sealing off operations of several metal smelting industry activities in Tangerang and halting open burning or illegal waste burning activities that contribute to air pollution.

"This actions were carried out to have a deterrent effect and to truly maintain environmentally friendly industrial operations without causing air pollution," he affirmed.

Based on the ISPU website, regions like Jakarta and its surroundings, which often experience poor air quality, were categorized as having moderate or good air quality on Thursday.

For instance, a station in East Jakarta recorded an ISPU score of 53, Bekasi District scored 54, Tangerang District reached 72, Tangerang City had 47, and South Tangerang City reported 39.

Air quality is categorized as good with a score between 0-50, moderate with scores in the 51-100 range, unhealthy at 101-200, very unhealthy at 201-300, and the dangerous category above 300, based on the Minister of Environment Regulation Number 14 of 2020.
