"The situation in tourist destinations remains safe and conducive owing to the sound level of preparedness demonstrated by security officers in the field," he added while reviewing the 2025 Eid return flow on a route connecting Malang city and Blitar district on Friday.
Gunawan pointed out that reports have indicated thousands of vehicles moving in the direction of tourist destinations such as Batu city, Mount Bromo, Sarangan Lake in Magetan district, and Karangkates Dam in Malang district.
He emphasized the importance of institutions working in synergy to maintain order and ensure the smooth flow of travelers throughout the annual exodus.
The minister also urged travelers to exercise vigilance during their trip and follow all instructions issued by the authorities to help ensure a safe and secure Eid exodus.
He added that while East Java has been enjoying a conducive atmosphere during the holiday period, the province is still facing challenges related to traffic accidents and natural disasters.
In this regard, he took note of a landslide that occurred recently on a route connecting Batu city and Mojokerto district, which led to the temporary closure of the Raden Soerjo Forest Park.
"The evacuation of victims is still underway," he informed.
In East Java, Gunawan reviewed the handling of Eid traffic flow by inspecting conditions in areas that are prone to heavy traffic, besides security posts set up by the National Police (Polri) and the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI).
He also visited the grave of Soekarno, the first president and independence proclaimer of Indonesia, in Blitar.
