"We met with Yogyakarta Governor Sultan Hamengkubuwono X at the Kilen Palace on Saturday to ensure a smooth flow of travelers entering and leaving Yogyakarta," Purwagandhi stated in a statement cited here on Saturday (April 5).
He emphasized that strong collaboration between the central and regional governments is crucial to ensuring safe and efficient travel during this year’s Eid festivities.
“Following our efforts to manage the homecoming traffic, we are now focused on strengthening coordination during the post-Eid return period. Our goal is to ensure a smooth journey for residents returning to their places of work or origin,” he explained.
Citing a survey conducted by the Transportation Policy Agency under his ministry, the minister said the peak of the return flow is expected between April 5 and 6.
He added that a significant number of travelers are projected to depart Yogyakarta through Giwangan Bus Terminal and Tugu Train Station.
Purwagandhi also highlighted Yogyakarta's continued appeal as a tourist destination, especially during the Eid holidays. He noted that several attractions remain crowd favorites, including Malioboro Street, Yogyakarta Palace, Parangtritis Beach, and Glagah Beach.
The minister expressed his appreciation to the Yogyakarta provincial government, the Yogyakarta Regional Police, and other relevant stakeholders for their contributions in managing the increased mobility during the 2025 Eid season.
He acknowledged the key role played by local authorities in setting up special Eid monitoring posts, implementing traffic control schemes, providing timely information, and anticipating the surge in tourist arrivals.
