He emphasized that the delegation team led by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto is capable of negotiating with the US in a high-level meeting, given their ministerial-level positions.
"Therefore, the (negotiation process) will be of high-level meeting," Oegroseno stated during a press conference here on Monday.
He explained that the position of Indonesian Ambassador to the US is still vacant due to the recent change in government.
Despite this, the government remains optimistic about the negotiation process going smoothly. Oegroseno believes it is too early to predict the outcome of the negotiations, including the tariff rates that will be agreed upon.
The Indonesian government has prepared several negotiation packages to be brought to the discussion in Washington D.C. to address the US reciprocal tariff policy.
Minister Airlangga Hartarto stated that diplomatic channels are the best solution, which will benefit both parties without resorting to retaliatory measures against the reciprocal tariff.
However, the Indonesian government will first meet with the leaders of ASEAN countries on April 10, 2025, to establish a unified regional stance.
"Indonesia will encourage several agreements with some ASEAN countries, and the trade minister will communicate with Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and others to make our joint stance as ASEAN," Hartarto stated.
Hartarto noted that Indonesia will strive to increase imports and investments from the US through oil and gas purchases.
The government also prepares fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, such as reducing import duties and value-added tax to push imports from the US while also maintaining the competitiveness of exports to the US.
