Jakarta (ANTARA) - Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya praised the national film industry's success in significantly increasing local movie viewership, reaching millions, during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr holiday period.

Data from various movie theater chains and film industry players highlighted the community's strong enthusiasm for local films.

"Local films have been able to dominate cinemas and welcomed positively by the community across the country," Harsya noted in a statement received on Monday.

Three local films released during the Eid holiday period have surpassed more than one million viewers: two horror films, Pabrik Gula and Qodrat 2, and an animated film, Jumbo.

Jumbo, produced by Visinema Pictures with contributions from 420 Indonesian creators, set a new record for the highest viewership of an Indonesian animated movie, reaching 1,005,252 viewers on its 7th day of screening based on movie theater chains' data.

This broke the previous record held by Si Juki the Movie: Panitia Hari Akhir (2017), which had 642,312 viewers.

The minister emphasized that the Ministry of Creative Economy would continue to support the growth of the national film ecosystem through various facilitation programs, incentives, and cross-platform promotions with various stakeholders.

"We encourage more collaboration between producers, young filmmakers, and digital platforms to expand the reach of Indonesian films domestically and abroad," he remarked.

The Ministry of Creative Economy will continue to ensure policies that favor creative economy players, including by facilitating film production and distribution to various regions in the country and the international market.

This is deemed necessary because the increase in viewership not only has a positive impact on the film industry but also generates a multiplier effect for other sectors, such as transportation, in various regions.
