This was confirmed by Ahmad Muzani, Secretary-General of the Prabowo-led Gerindra Party and Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), while furnishing details on the long-awaited meeting on Wednesday.
"Mr Prabowo addressed various global problems and challenges the world currently faces, most notably US President Donald Trump's policy of imposing new tariffs on foreign products imported into his country, including those from Indonesia," he remarked at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta.
He stated that Megawati, chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), shared her experiences in pursuing the recovery of Indonesia's national economy.
"Madam Mega explained how she overcame challenges to recover the national economy. Mr. Prabowo highly valued Madam Mega's views and efforts regarding this matter," he highlighted.
Their meeting was first confirmed by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) and Gerindra cadre Sufmi Dasco Ahmad on Tuesday (April 8).
He stated that the 1.5-hour meeting took place at Megawati's residence in Jakarta, starting around 8:30 p.m. local time.
Muzani, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs were also present at the former president's home.
The discourse surrounding the Prabowo-Megawati meeting had been circulating in the public since last year, with Gerindra and PDI-P elites repeatedly telling the media that the two national figures would eventually meet.
Reports initially indicated that the meeting would take place before Prabowo's presidential inauguration in October 2024. However, the plan stalled until recently, when the president visited his predecessor during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
