"This is an iconic place. It is not only iconic for Aceh but also for this country. Historically, it is very important for our nation," Antoni said during his visit.
He explained that the Sabang zero-kilometer point is famous for its marine or underwater beauty. Additionally, during certain months, it also becomes a winter stopover for migratory birds, such as sea eagles, herons, and storks.
The zero-kilometer point in Sabang is often referred to as the geographic marker of the westernmost tip of Indonesia, marked by the zero-point monument that stands on a cliff facing the Indian Ocean.
Meanwhile, chairperson of Commission IV of the House of Representatives (DPR), Titiek Soeharto, expressed her delight over visiting the zero-kilometer point.
"I am very happy to set foot at the zero point for the first time, and I am very glad to be here to see this phenomenal monument. I hope to return here with an even better condition," she remarked.
She then shared the timing of bird migrations over Indonesian territory, which, she said, needs to be promoted as a unique attraction for tourists.
"We found out that this area is a stopover for migratory birds. According to the National Geographic, they stop here in our country. This should be promoted; the timing of their stopovers is routine, so during that time, we should promote it to attract visitors," she expounded.
