Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture emphasized the government's commitment to protecting the rights of women, both in the family and workplace.

Woro Srihastuti, the ministry's Deputy for the Coordination of Family and Population Quality Improvement, made the statement on Monday at the ministry's Kartini Day celebration event in Jakarta.

Kartini Day is celebrated every April 21 in Indonesia to commemorate women's emancipation activist R.A. Kartini.

"While we want to encourage them to work professionally, productively, there are obstacles faced by women that can be facilitated systematically," she remarked.

She observed that while women possess the same opportunities as men, including building a career, numerous challenges persist for career women.

Additionally, she emphasized that despite women being increasingly active in the world of work, they continue to face various obstacles that require serious attention, namely from the system in the workplace, society, and within the family.

At the commemoration event of Kartini Day, several proposals were raised, such as the provision of daycare facilities in the workplace and the implementation of six-month maternity leave.

"We actually already have the Maternal and Child Welfare Law, which regulates six months of maternity leave, although there is a note for the additional three months," she remarked.

In addition, she highlighted the policy of menstrual leave for women. According to Srihastuti, these policies are a form of systemic facilitation that supports women so they can remain productive without neglecting their biological needs and domestic roles.

"These are what we discussed in today's event," she remarked.
