Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has provided a US$6 million (Rp101.2 billion) grant to the Fijian government, a move seen as aiding the Pacific island country address its national debt.

"We greatly appreciate the grant valued at FJ$12 million, or equal to US$6 million," Fijian PM Sitiveni Rabuka stated in the joint press statement with President Prabowo Subianto after their bilateral meeting at the Merdeka Palace here on Thursday.

"We are no longer burdened by our debts, and we express our utmost gratitude to you and your government," the Fijian PM told his Indonesian counterpart.

Rabuka emphasized Indonesia's role as a trusted partner and friend of Fiji since 1974 and commended President Prabowo for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation.
