Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Population and Family Development Wihaji announced that as of April 28, the Parents Movement to Prevent Stunting (Genting) Program had reached 141,382 foster children, supported by 20,396 foster parents.

"As of April 28, there are 141,382 foster children under the care of 20,396 foster parents," he stated during a working meeting with Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Wednesday.

The Genting Program, launched by the ministry on December 5, 2024, aims to reduce the risk of stunting in families by providing nutritional support, implementing clean water programs, and preventing early marriages.

Wihaji explained that foster parents have provided various types of assistance to hundreds of thousands of foster children, including nutritional support for 115,335 children, clean water access for 2,623 children, prevention and treatment education assistance for 22,465 children, and improvements in the form of healthy toilets and habitable houses for 959 children.

The minister affirmed that his side had also formed a Genting Control Team to ensure the program's implementation. As of April 28, the team had been formed in 35 provinces, representing 92.11 percent of Indonesia's 38 provinces.

He noted that the team had yet to be established in all provinces due to the unfinished regional head elections in some regions.

"Some regions have not completed their election. They need to wait for a new regional head because the team will be led by the regional head," Wihaji noted.

In addition to the Genting Program, his side has also developed an application called Electronic Ready for Marriage and Pregnancy (elsimil) to educate prospective couples about marriage and reproduction.
