Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian parliament offered to mediate peace talks between countries that are currently engaged in conflict at the ongoing 19th Session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference.

This was conveyed by chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the House of Representatives (DPR), Mardani Ali Sera, in Jakarta on Tuesday.

At the 19th PUIC Conference, Indonesia sought to mediate not just the Israel-Palestine dispute, but also the conflicts between India and Pakistan, as well as Russia and Ukraine.

"Then, between our (OIC) countries, there are the sub-Saharan and others; there are disputes," Mardani noted.

The BKSAP chair emphasized that as a mediator, the Indonesian parliament would not side with one particular party, but focus on resolving the conflict by pursuing peace.

"What is important is to find a solution based on peace," he remarked.

The 19th Session of the PUIC Conference is taking place from May 12 to 15, 2025, at the Indonesian Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta. It is themed "Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience."

This year's conference coincides with the 25th anniversary of the PUIC, which was established in 1999. The event is expected to draw 450 delegates from the parliaments of OIC member states and observer countries.

Earlier, DPR Speaker Puan Maharani underlined that hosting the conference is a strategic momentum for Indonesia to reaffirm its role as a driver of diplomacy for the Muslim world, which is democratic, inclusive, and solution-oriented.

Maharani emphasized that Indonesia, especially the DPR, is ready to serve as a bridge for dialogue, collaboration, and transformation between the parliaments of the Muslim world.
