Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH) has responded to the expansion of the miqat (pilgrimage starting point) area at Bir Ali Mosque by shifting personnel to strategic locations.

"We have repositioned officers to more strategic spots to optimize service for pilgrims. This is to maximize service to the pilgrims due to the expansion in the Bir Ali Mosque area," Muhammad, head of the Bir Ali sector, informed in Medina on Tuesday.

In addition to repositioning staff, he urged flight group leaders and team leaders to ensure that pilgrims perform wudhu (ablutions) and wear ihram (sacred garments) before leaving their hotels. This is aimed at speeding up the process and preventing overcrowding.

"The time limit in Bir Ali is only 15 minutes, so we are trying to be as efficient as possible," he explained.

He emphasized that elderly and disabled pilgrims should remain on the bus during the miqat process. The miqat remains valid even if the niyyah (intention) is made from inside the vehicle, he explained.

"We truly hope that all elderly and disabled pilgrims remain on the bus to make their niyyah. It is valid and permitted according to Islamic law," he added.

He said that the scorching weather could pose health risks for these vulnerable pilgrims.

As of Tuesday, a total of 7,025 pilgrims from 18 flight groups have performed miqat at Bir Ali. They were ferried using 172 buses.

The miqat process at Bir Ali will continue until all first-wave pilgrims are taken from Medina to Mecca. According to the official schedule, the transfer period will extend from May 10, 2025, to May 25.
