The Ministry of Cooperatives and the Law Ministry teamed up to ensure that the 80 thousand business entities planned under the Red and White Village Cooperatives program can obtain legal status with ease.
The cooperation was formalized with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Jakarta on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by the Cooperatives Ministry.
"With this MoU, I am optimistic and convinced that the government will be able to speed up the legalization of 80 thousand Red and White Village Cooperatives," Cooperatives Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said after signing the agreement.
He also expressed confidence that the collaboration would reassure the public of the accountability, transparency, and credibility of the planned cooperatives.
"(Through the collaboration), we will strengthen the relevant legal basis to ensure that Red and White Village Cooperatives run within a legitimate framework," he said.
Furthermore, Setiadi emphasized that the MoU will serve as the basis for both ministries to prevent rural cooperatives from engaging in inappropriate practices.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Supratman Andi Agtas called on all ministries and agencies to work hand in hand in carrying out their work programs, particularly those concerning legal certainty for the public.
"The Ministry of Cooperatives is tasked with preparing 80 thousand Red and White Village Cooperatives that will need to be legally registered, which is not a trivial mandate," he pointed out.
Agtas highlighted that the Ministry of Law has devised an innovative digital system, which is expected to allow for the simultaneous registration of up to one thousand cooperatives in an hour.
The minister expressed the hope that the initiative would help expedite the establishment and operation of the planned cooperatives across Indonesia.
In addition to the Cooperatives Ministry, the Ministry of Law also inked cooperation pacts with 20 other ministries and agencies on the same occasion.
