“Such calls must be rejected because Gaza belongs to the people of Palestine,” she emphasized while opening the 19th Session of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Maharani stressed that Gaza must be rebuilt not only with buildings and infrastructure, but also with dignity, justice, and hope.
She highlighted that the victims in Gaza are primarily civilians, with women and children facing starvation, and hospitals and schools destroyed by the ongoing conflict.
She called on OIC parliaments to push more countries around the world to formally recognize the State of Palestine and to support a peaceful resolution through a two-state solution.
“The PUIC represents the aspirations of people across many nations,” she said. “They hope that this conference produces concrete outcomes with a positive impact.”
Maharani urged the governments of OIC member states to actively disseminate the PUIC's recommendations and to present a united front in international forums, emphasizing solidarity among OIC nations.
Indonesia is hosting the 19th PUIC Conference this year, from May 12 to 15, under the theme "Good Governance and Strong Institutions as Pillars of Resilience."
Earlier on Tuesday, Irine Yusiana Roba Putri, deputy chair of the DPR’s Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP), stated that the conference will produce a joint resolution to support peace in Palestine.
“We agreed to jointly urge the international community to take serious and concrete action to promote peace in Palestine,” she said.
