“If coffee becomes one of the main commodities in this country, including in Jakarta, I believe the lives of baristas will also improve,” Anung stated during the “World of Coffee Jakarta 2025” event at Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) held on Saturday.
He also expressed hope that Indonesia will produce highly skilled baristas in the coffee industry if coffee becomes a leading product.
“I am convinced that sooner or later, Indonesian coffee, which is now beginning to dominate the world in terms of quantity, will also produce baristas with extraordinary talent,” he affirmed.
The Jakarta Provincial Government will support the coffee industry in the city, he added.
“We will facilitate matters such as entry and exit permissions, licensing, taxes, and so on, to support the industry,” he explained.
According to the official website of World of Coffee, this event was launched by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) in 1999 and has become one of the most significant events in the global coffee industry.
Initially held in Boston, the United States, the event has expanded with editions in Europe, Dubai, and Asia in line with the growing coffee market.
The event also brings together coffee professionals, including producers, roasters, baristas, and manufacturers, and features programs such as the SCA Community Lounge and Roaster Village.
Anung also noted that the coffees presented at the event are among the best, and this event presents an opportunity for the coffee industry.
"This is also an opportunity for farmers, coffee producers, distributors, and so on,” he noted.
