"I will reveal my diploma when requested by the court or the judge," the former president stated after personally attending the questioning at the police headquarters in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The former president underwent police questioning for over one hour. He arrived at the police headquarters at 9:43 a.m. local time and completed the questioning at 10:48 a.m. local time.
Jokowi explained that investigators inquired about his elementary school, high school, and university diplomas, as well as his activities while enrolled in Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta.
"I got 22 questions about my diploma. I was also asked about my undergraduate thesis and activities during my university years," he stated.
Authorized by Jokowi himself, his brother-in-law Wahyudi Andrianto handed over the former president's senior high school and university diplomas to the police's Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) on May 9.
According to Jokowi's attorney, Yakup Hasibuan, the diplomas were submitted to the police for forensic examination to prove their originality. Because these are sensitive documents, his side entrusted Andrianto to help hand them over to the police, he added.
The police have so far questioned 24 people, including former minister Roy Suryo, in their probe into the fake diploma accusation against former president Joko Widodo.
Jokowi has described accusations that he faked his undergraduate diploma as "cruel and slanderous," tarnishing both his and his family's dignity.
"Such accusations harmed Mr Jokowi's image and dignity, harmed the family's dignity, and harmed the Indonesian nation's dignity," Hasibuan stated on April 29 after filing police reports against individuals who claimed the former president used a fake diploma.
