Sekolah Rakyat is a free education initiative launched by the government to improve access to education and reduce poverty.
"Of the 100 schools for the first phase of Sekolah Rakyat, the renovation work for 65 schools started last week. We hope it can be completed by early July," he remarked on Wednesday.
Hanggodo stated that infrastructure work for Sekolah Rakyat phase I has started at 100 schools, with completion targeted for 2025.
Construction for the 65 schools has begun in several regions: 13 in Sumatra, 34 in Java, three in Kalimantan, eight in Sulawesi, three in Bali/Nusa Tenggara, and two each in North Maluku and Papua.
For the remaining 35 schools, his side is still surveying the proposed location.
"For the 35 schools, the target is to complete them by September 2025, but we will try to complete them in July or August," the minister stated.

He explained that renovation work for phase I includes repairing the existing school building structure to providing furniture. Meanwhile, phase II, targeted for completion in 2026, will involve constructing new school buildings.
"We have verified 219 proposed locations for phase II, of which 35 have been approved and 69 have not been approved due to the incomplete land certificates. Meanwhile, the other 115 have not been approved since the land does not comply with the provisions," he noted.
He remarked that unapproved school locations will be directed to propose more suitable alternatives.
Sekolah Rakyat is scheduled to launch in the 2025–2026 academic year, funded by the state budget and private-sector funding.
Teacher recruitment is already underway, involving civil servants, contract teachers, and graduates of the Teacher Professional Education Program.
The curriculum is being finalized by a team led by Prof. Muhammad Nuh, with additional training scheduled for June 2025.
