Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) showcased Indonesia's sustainable tuna products at the IPNLF Vision for the Future forum during the 2025 Seafood Expo Global (SEG) in Barcelona, Spain.

The ministry's Director General of Marine and Fisheries Products Competitiveness Strengthening, Tornanda Syaifullah, explained that the SEG exhibition gathers thousands of participants from 91 countries and serves as a meeting platform for producers and potential buyers in the world's fisheries industry.

"IPNLF is part of the series of activities for the 2025 SEG, with the aim to promote and connect tuna producers, namely Indonesia, as one of the largest tuna producing countries in the world, with global buyers from several countries," he noted in a press conference on Wednesday.

At the 2025 SEG, Indonesia brought eight exporters to showcase tuna, squid, and other processed fishery products at the international exhibition pavilion.

Syaifullah remarked that during the IPNLF forum, the ministry also reiterated its commitment to sustainable marine development in line with the blue economy policy to ensure the sustainability of marine ecosystems and fishermen's welfare.

His side also held bilateral meetings with nine tuna importers from various countries to strengthen global interest in Indonesian fishery products that are considered to meet sustainability and traceability standards.

Importers from the UK, the European Union, the United States, and the United Arab Emirates expressed strong interest in purchasing Indonesian tuna caught using environmentally friendly pole, line, and handline methods.

Syaifullah noted that several importers also offered technology partnership and collaboration plans, such as developing STELINA and digital logbooks, to ensure product quality and traceability.

He said his side continues to convince global buyers that Indonesia's fishery products adhere to the principles of traceability, transparency, human rights compliance, and regulatory compliance.

"Indonesian tuna products have met international quality and sustainability standards such as HACCP, MSC, BRC, and SHTI," he highlighted.

In 2024, Indonesia's exports of tuna, skipjack, and mackerel (TCT) reached US$1.03 billion, an increase of 11.6 percent compared to 2023.

The main export destinations are ASEAN and the United States, each with a market share of 22.6 percent and 22.4 percent of Indonesia's total TCT exports.

The exports are dominated by fillet products (39.2 percent), canned tuna (25.9 percent), and frozen whole tuna (27.3 percent).
