“We are designing a sustainable PON implementation. Existing venues must be utilized (sustainably) and cannot be left abandoned,” Ariotedjo noted in the ministry's written statement here on Friday.
The minister, who officially opened the Paragliding Accuracy World Cup (PGAWC) at Bukit Sky Lancing in Central Lombok District, NTB, on Thursday (May 22), stated that the central government, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, will conduct a comprehensive evaluation following the implementation of the 2024 Aceh-North Sumatra PON.
The evaluation aims to ensure that the 2028 PON will not only be successful in terms of execution but also yield real, long-lasting benefits.
“Certainly, after the Aceh-North Sumatra PON, we will carry out an evaluative concept. Our focus is on ensuring sustainability, and that must be a top priority,” he stressed.

Echoing the minister's remarks, NTB Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal expressed the regional government's readiness to host the 2028 PON.
He also accentuated the importance of maintaining the sports infrastructure that will be developed.
“Of course, the regional government is ready to serve as host. The infrastructure must be maintained. We share the same commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the sports venues,” Iqbal added.
The 2028 PON will mark the first time two provinces in eastern Indonesia jointly host the national multi-sport event. The sustainability focus is expected to improve budget efficiency and provide long-term benefits for local communities and the national sports ecosystem.
