Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia continues to strengthen its economic diplomacy by showcasing its strategic role as a gateway to the ASEAN market during an international business forum organized by Andalucía TRADE in Seville, Andalusia.

In a press statement issued Saturday, the Indonesian Embassy in Madrid reported that a delegation led by Ambassador Muhammad Najib took part in the forum, which was initiated by the Andalusian government.

In his address, Najib highlighted Indonesia’s position as the largest economy in Southeast Asia and a key entry point to the broader ASEAN market.

"With its strategic geographic location, a population of over 270 million, and a strong commitment to innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation, Indonesia offers excellent opportunities for businesses in Spain and Andalusia. We welcome partnerships that promote mutual growth and prosperity," he said.

Deputy Minister of Economy, Finance, and European Funds Amelia Martínez Sánchez also expressed the Andalusian government’s support for expanding into new markets. She specifically identified Indonesia as an emerging economic power and a strategic partner for Andalusia in the ASEAN region.

According to data from Andalucía TRADE, total bilateral trade between Andalusia and Indonesia reached 21 million euros in 2024, underscoring the potential for further growth.

The forum featured several business-to-business meetings aimed at laying the groundwork for future cooperation, strategic alliances, and knowledge exchange.

Delegates from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) also met with the Spanish Trade Office in Madrid, resulting in an agreement to sign a memorandum of understanding.

The cooperation is expected to be formalized during the Spanish delegation's visit to Indonesia in July.
