Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono, received a visit from a Dutch delegation comprising officials from the Dutch Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Nature and agricultural business actors on Tuesday.
“The meeting resulted in a commitment to work together through the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) by the ministers of agriculture of Indonesia and the Netherlands,” Sudaryono informed at a press conference here the same day.
Earlier, some Dutch companies had expressed an interest in contributing to Indonesia’s agriculture sector. However, they faced certain challenges, which are currently being addressed to support investment and benefit local farmers.
Sudaryono said that his ministry will fully support initiatives that deliver real benefits to the people, the country, and farmers through concrete steps that are quick, efficient, and collaborative.
According to Indonesia, it is important to learn from the Netherlands, a small country with about four million hectares of land that has emerged as the second-largest agricultural exporter in the world thanks to innovation, technology, and high efficiency.
Through cooperation with the Netherlands, Indonesia wants to accelerate horticultural productivity, bolster food security, and ensure sustainable benefits for farmers and businesses from both nations.
“We need to learn a lot from the Dutch, who have experience in developing agriculture for hundreds of years, especially in horticulture, greenhouses, seeds, irrigation, and so on,” Sudaryono said.
At the same press conference, Dutch Deputy Director-General for Agro at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature, and Food Security, Guido Landheer, said that his delegation also included greenhouse companies, seeders, and other technical suppliers.
Landheer emphasized that the cooperation is not intended to increase Dutch exports to Indonesia but to strengthen Indonesia’s domestic production capacity to help it achieve food self-sufficiency through knowledge and experience sharing.
