“News outlets are faced with challenges that prompt us to always grow and develop in the midst of disruptions and the hegemony of global media platforms,” he said at the 19th OANA General Assembly in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday.
He expressed the hope that OANA will continue to contribute to efforts to maintain a solid ecosystem for news agencies, promote press professionalism, and encourage bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Munir delivered these remarks in the presence of leaders of news agencies attending this year’s general assembly, which was organized by Russia’s TASS news agency and themed “News Agencies and Challenges in the Modern World.”
Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov delivered his welcome remarks in a video played at the event, which was held in conjunction with the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2025.
He spoke highly of OANA, praising its vital role as a unifying platform for news agencies from Eurasia, the Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East for exchanging experiences and best practices.
“This organization has contributed to ensuring impartial coverage of international issues and has taken numerous initiatives to promote honest journalism and defend the rights of all media professionals equally, without discrimination,” he said.
Lavrov affirmed that the Russian government recognizes OANA’s contributions toward building a better world—efforts that deserve respect and support.
Echoing his remarks, TASS director general Andrey Kondrashov said that OANA is a valuable forum that allows its members to exchange experience and knowledge.
He expressed the hope that all OANA member news outlets would remain committed to reporting current issues to help shape a better future.
